‘Beneath the cross of Jesus’; ‘‘The old rugged cross’; ‘When I survey the wondrous cross’ – just some of the memorable hymns that take as their starting point the cross of Christ. The events of Good Friday, the agony of Calvary, have imprinted themselves on the minds of believers across the centuries, inspiring hymns, poetry, sermons, reflections, prayers and praise, surely no event in history having had quite such an impact on lives across the years. Today I’m posting part of a recording I made many years back: a combination of readings, prayers, music and reflections aimed at communicating something of the awesome message of this day and the sacrifice it recalls. It’s from my CD No Ordinary Story – a celebration of Holy Week and Easter – and it’s titled simply ‘Death’.
