Here’s a short and simple prayer from my book The Animal Lover’s Daily Prayer Book. It reminds us of the vital truth we too often forget; that God’s is an unconditional love for us, despite the way that we, as Christians, can be as guilty as any of ring-fencing it, placing all kinds of caveats on a love that will never own them.
Teach me, Lord,
that faith isn’t about jumping through hoops
and somehow gaining your approval,
but about receiving what you delight to give.
Help me fully to understand
that any conditions to your love
are of my making rather than yours.
