‘Sing to the Lord a new song,’ says the writer of Psalm 98, and in Psalm 40 we read: ‘He has put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.’ Just two of many places where the psalms use the analogy of music and song to describe the joy brought into one’s heart by knowing and loving God, That’s the theme of the following simple prayer from my book The Animal Lover’s Daily Prayer Book,
Thank you, Lord,
for you have put music in my soul
and a song in my heart –
a melody of joy, praise and thanksgiving,
that transports me with wonder
and thrills me deep within.
Amen.
