Meanwhile, here’s the third of seven poetic reflections from the book that I’ll be posting this week to run alongside this promotion, this one focusing on the needs of the elderly.
When summer years have ended
When summer years have ended
and autumn has set in;
when middle age is over
and later years begin;
grant still a sense of purpose,
of all that’s yet in store;
the faith that, though it’s passing,
life still holds so much more.
When life has changed direction,
assumed a different pace;
no need now for employment;
no children round the place;
grant still a sense of purpose,
of all that we can do;
that though life may be passing,
each day holds something new.
Though health may be declining
and faculties may wane;
though much may prove a challenge
and often bring us pain;
grant still a sense of purpose,
Lord, help us to believe,
life still holds much to welcome
and much still to receive.
