1. The names of the apostles were as follows: Simon Peter, James, John, Andrew, Matthew (Levi), James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the Zealot), Thaddaeus (also known as Judas, the brother of James), Thomas, Philip, Bartholomew (identified with Nathanael mentioned in John’s Gospel), Judas Iscariot.
2. Zebedee was the father of James and John (Luke 5:10; Mark 1:19).
3. Peter was the first to recognise Jesus as the Messiah (Matthew 16:13-20; Mark 8:27-30).
4. John wrote the book of Revelation on the island of Patmos (Revelation 1:9).
5. Matthew was also known as Levi (Luke 5:27-32).
6. Peter, James and John were with Jesus when he was transfigured (Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:1-8).
7. Cleopas is mentioned by name (Luke 24:18).
8. Philip first told Nathaniel about Jesus (John 1:43-51).
9. Peter delivered a sermon on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-36).
10. Philip, Andrew and Peter came from Bethsaida (John 1:44).
11. Joseph, called Barsabbas, also known as Justus was the unsuccessful would-be apostle (Acts 1:23).
12. Andrew was Simon Peter’s brother (Matthew 4:18; John 6:8).
13. The words ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life’ were spoken to Thomas (John 14:5, 6).
14. John 20:2-5 tells us it was ‘the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved’ who reached the tomb first. This disciple is usually equated with John himself.
15. James and John were nicknamed ‘Boanerges’, meaning ‘Sons of Thunder’ (Mark 3:17).
