Having been especially asked by a new follower on Twitter whether I could post a prayer for tomorrow in preparation for worship, here’s the prayer for Ascension Day or the Sunday after Ascension from Prayers or Preparation, found also in the Free Church version, Before We Begin.
Saviour Christ,
King of kings and Lord of lords,
we want today to offer more than well-intentioned routine,
more than hymns and prayers,
words and music,
preaching and teaching.
We want to offer worship,
praise,
adoration,
bubbling from within,
welling up,
spilling over,
expressing our love and gratitude,
and offering our lives back to you in joyful response.
Come among us now, through your Spirit,
and reveal your glory.
Fill and thrill us afresh with your grace,
and help us to bless your name,
as you have blessed us in so much.
Amen.
