As I said yesterday, there are no easy answers to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, nor to division, violence and war elsewhere in our world, and our prayers can consequently sometimes feel naïve, hollow, hopelessly out of touch with reality. Yet we need to pray, nonetheless, for it is in moments of crisis, above all, that God’s help is most urgently needed. Here, then, is a prayer for all those whose lives have been overturned by war.
For those whose lives have been overturned by war
Lord,
hear our prayer for the people of Ukraine,
and for all those whose lives have been overturned by war.
Amid the suffering,
give comfort.
Amid the grief,
give solace.
Amid the fear,
give courage.
Amid the panic,
give calm.
Amid the danger,
give protection.
Amid the dread,
give reassurance.
Amid the pain,
give relief.
Amid the killing,
give consolation.
Amid the turmoil.
give confidence.
Amid the devastation,
give encouragement.
Amid the despair,
give hope.
Amid the tyranny,
give wisdom.
Amid the weakness,
give strength.
Amid the anguish,
give determination.
Amid the adversity,
give support.
Hear our prayer,
in the name of Christ.
