Another prayer today for those who feel lonely and isolated; the countless people in our world – far too many – who yearn for companionship but feel cut off from others. It’s taken from my book 2,000 Prayers for Public Worship.
Father God,
reach out to all who are lonely,
deprived of human companionship through age or infirmity,
or separated from others –
even when they are with them –
through fear,
shyness,
mistrust or prejudice.
Reach out into our fragmented society,
in which so much of the feeling of community has been lost,
where ties that once bound families together have been broken,
where so many live only for themselves.
Father,
give to us and to all a sense of worth
and an understanding of the humanity that binds us together,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
