Answers to the Old Testament challenge

Here are the answers to the Old Testament challenge I set you a couple of days ago, taken from my quiz book Ask Me Another.

1. Nehemiah asked permission to return to Judah and help rebuild the city of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2:5).
2. Isaac’s wife was called Rebekah (Rebecca) (Genesis 24:67).
3. Absalom’s hair got caught in a tree, leaving him hanging there until Joab thrust
three spears into his heart (2 Samuel 18:9-5).
4. Isaiah urged people not to spend money on what is not bread (55:2).
5. Noah used cypress or gopher wood to build the ark (Genesis 6:14).
6. The fifth commandment is ‘Honour your father and mother’ (Exodus 20:12).
7. There twelve tribes of Israel are: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph (actually two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim) and Benjamin. Some leave out Levi as an actual tribe and list Manasseh and Ephraim separately.
8. Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26).
9. Job’s three friends were Eliphaz the Termanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite.
10. Numbers 22:28-30 tells us that a donkey spoke to Balaam.
11. Job was tested by tragedy.
12. Joshua succeeded Moses as leader of the Israelites (Deuteronomy 31:1-8; 34:9).
13. Samuel’s mother was Hannah (1 Samuel 1:19, 20).
14. Jezebel wanted to kill Elijah (1 Kings 19:1, 2).
15. Bathsheba’s husband was called Uriah, the Hittite (2 Samuel 11:3).
