Here’s another new coronavirus prayer, to help support and encourage you during the continuing crisis.
Speak to me of new beginnings, Lord,
of hope,
promise,
a future to look forward to,
for I’ve had enough of doom and gloom,
of grim headlines,
dire warnings
and adverse predictions.
Yes, I know they’re well founded,
that though this crisis we’re facing may have improved,
it hasn’t gone away –
not by a long chalk.
And I know we need to be sensible,
realistic about the situation.
But that doesn’t mean, surely, we should dwell on the bad
at the cost of the good,
on negatives
rather than positives,
sucked into a vortex of pessimism that begins to shape everything,
defining the way we think,
and feel,
and act.
Enough of that, I say, Lord:
no point crossing our bridges until we get to them.
We can only deal with what’s before us,
taking them one at time,
and though much indeed is bleak,
much also remains special beyond words.
And, for today, that’s enough,
and more than enough.
Amen.
