The nightlight
It gave just a glow,
no more,
but it was enough to dispel the gloom
and, with it, the child’s fear,
bringing a sense of security,
welcome reassurance
during the dark hours of the night.
Help me, Lord, to glimpse your light
even when life is at its darkest.
Though the night of sorrow, fear, pain or doubt closes in,
cold and forbidding,
may a glimmer of your love shine through –
a glimpse of your presence sufficient to sustain faith,

and impart peace.
