To me, prayer shouldn’t be separate from daily life, but should arise spontaneously from it, inspired by the ordinary sights, sounds and experiences that surround us. That was the raison d’être behind my book Touching the Seasons, as well as for the other books in the series, Heaven Touching Earth, Touching Down and Touched By His Hand. In the following, for example, a floodlit stadium leads to a prayer concerning the gift of God’s light in Christ.
The floodlights
The night was drawing in,
darkness descending,
but it made no difference to the game,
for the floodlights were on,
illuminating the ground,
allowing the fans to see every pass,
every dribble,
every shot,
every goal.
Thank you, Lord, for your light,
guiding to Bethlehem,
shining on the mountain,
pouring from the empty tomb
and sparkling in our hearts.
Thank you for the knowledge that,
whatever life brings,
you will give light to my path,
this and every day.
Amen.
