Here’s a little prayer from my book The Little Book of Lent Prayers, reminding us that Lent calls us to pause, ponder and take stock, not only of our lives but equally of our discipleship.
I can make token gestures, Lord,
deny myself the odd treat or luxury,
but they won’t make much difference to who I am.
Help me instead to cut out what matters:
those things that come between us,
preventing me from knowing
and loving you as I should.
Amen.
