Money, money, money

One of the saddest stories of Holy Week is surely that of Judas betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Not only does it call us to consider our allegiance to Christ, but it warns of the allure of money that can so easily lead us astray, if only in the pursuit of more of it. That’s the theme of the following, taking from The Little Book of Lent Prayers.

Forgive me, Lord,
for I make money my idol,
the pursuit of wealth my overriding goal.
Teach me to focus on true riches,
lest what I possess ends up possessing me.
Amen.
