Here’s a short and simple offering from my book The Animal Lover’s Daily Prayer Book, reminding us that faith is not just an optional extra, more ornament than use.
Have mercy, Lord,
for I treat faith as an optional extra –
something to put on when it suits me,
and then leave off.
Help me to commit myself wholeheartedly to you,
lest I be more ornament than use.
Amen.
