A prayer from my forthcoming book God of Here, There and Everywhere: Prayers Inspired by the Celtic Spiritual Tradition, celebrating the cycle of the seasons, and God’s faithfulness.
God of winter repose,
of unclothed trees and bare soil,
teach me to make time for rest and recuperation,
for restoring my energy before attempting new ventures.
God of spring promise,
of bulbs shooting through the frozen earth,
of lengthening days
and birds starting to sing,
teach me to look forward in hope,
to trust in your future,
and to begin again.
God of summer sunshine,
teach me to walk in your light,
and to share it with others;
to bask in the warmth of your love,
and, in turn, to love with a similar intensity.
God of autumn plenty,
cultivate the fruits of your Spirit within me.
a rich harvest of peace,
generosity,
compassion
and self-control.
God of the seasons,
the constant cycle of life,
the reassuring rhythm of the year,
teach me to reflect on your faithfulness,
so that, come what may,
I will know you are always with me,
to teach,
to guide
and to bless.
Amen.
