Here’s a prayer for Good Friday, gratefully acknowledging the extent of Christ’s love and sacrifice, in contrast to the paucity of our response.
GOOD FRIDAY
Surely he has carried our weaknesses and afflictions; yet we reckoned him struck down and afflicted by God. It was, though, for our misdeeds that he was wounded, our mistakes he was crushed. He endured the punishment that made us whole; his bruises brought us healing.
Isaiah 53:4, 5
Christ who surrendered so much,
forgive me for forgoing so little.
Christ who endured so much,
forgive me for bearing so little.
Christ who gave so much,
forgive me for offering so little.
Christ who sacrificed so much,
forgive me for renouncing so little.
Christ who cared so much,
forgive me for responding so little.
Christ who forgave so much,
forgive me for pardoning so little.
Christ who suffered so much,
forgive me for braving so little.
Christ who committed so much,
forgive me for dedicating so little.
Christ who promised so much,
forgive me for pledging so little.
Christ who loved so much,
forgive me for devoting so little.
Saviour Christ,
you gave your life,
your everything,
for us;
you experienced agony to make us whole,
accepting death to bring us life.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Amen
