A prayer for Easter Sunday

Today is the day that for Christians makes sense of every day; the day that tells us that despite the apparent triumph in the world of darkness and evil, God will finally have the final word. Without Easter there is finally no joy, no hope, no gospel.

EASTER DAY

He is not here; he has risen!
Luke 24:5b

Lord Jesus Christ,
you were nailed to a cross,
your enemies intent on destroying you,
but you rose again,
hatred denied victory over love,
evil over good,
death over life.
With heartfelt praise, we rejoice and give thanks.
A spear was thrust through your side to ensure you were dead,
and you were cut down, limp and lifeless,
and wrapped in grave clothes,
but you rose again,
hatred denied victory over love,
evil over good,
death over life.
With heartfelt praise, we rejoice and give thanks.
You were placed in a tomb,
a stone rolled against the entrance,
a guard set to keep watch,
but you rose again,
hatred denied victory over love,
evil over good,
death over life.
With heartfelt praise, we rejoice and give thanks.
You were meant to be defeated,
snuffed out,
silenced for ever,
but you rose again,
hatred denied victory over love,
evil over good,
death over life.
With heartfelt praise, we rejoice and give thanks.
Amen.
