A prayer for Holy Monday

Here’s a prayer for Holy Monday, acknowledging with gratitude the wonder of Christ’s love and faithfulness as he took the way of the cross.

HOLY MONDAY

Knowing that the time was fast approaching when he would have to offer up his life and be
received into heaven, he resolutely set his face towards Jerusalem.
Luke 9:51

Lord Jesus Christ,
as I remember how you set your face to Jerusalem,
knowing full well what lay in store for you there,
in awe I marvel.
Though I think of self,
you thought of others.
Though I am fearful,
you displayed courage.
Though I am weak,
you were strong.
Though I am faithless,
you were faithful.
Though I am lacking in love,
you were love personified.
Though I am false,
you were true.
Though I am hesitant,
you were resolute.
Though I am half-hearted,
you were committed.
Though I hold back,
you gave all.
Lord Jesus Christ,
though I deserve so little,
you gave so much;
though I fail you,
you never fail me;
though I put myself first,
you put yourself last.
For that awesome grace, that unmerited sacrifice,
I pour out my gratitude and offer my worship.
Amen.
