Here’s a short and simple prayer from my book The Animal Lover’s Daily Prayer Book, first published in The Little Book of Bird Prayers. It’s well suited to this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, but it applies equally to all of us, every day. Is it true, as the words of a well-known chorus have it, that those we encounter in our daily lives ‘will know we are Christians by our love’? Are we indeed united in love. We could be, and we should be.
Draw me closer, Lord,
to you and those around me,
overcoming whatever keeps us apart
and uniting us in love.
Amen.
