What a month it’s been – almost certainly the most demanding of my life. It started when my haematologist sprang a bolt from the blue by telling me that I almost certainly had bowel cancer on top of my myeloma. A sigmoidoscopy, then full colonoscopy, happily showed that I’m clear of this, but there are unexplained growths in the abdomen – almost certainly myeloma related – that are causing considerable pain and that urgently need biopsies to see what, if anything can be done about them. Meanwhile, I’ve spent much of the last fortnight in hospital, needing a stent inserted into a blocked bile duct, and subsequently developing acute pancreatitis.
Happily I’m home now, and strong pain relief is enabling me to function again reasonably well, but this is obviously a hugely testing time, not least for my wife Deborah, and for my two children, Samuel and Kate. Thank you for your continued prayerful support and concern.
So sorry to hear of your further difficulties, Nick, and pray for your speedy recovery and that you and your family stay strong through what is obviously a very worrying and upsetting time. I still get a kick first thing in the morning looking at the days prayer from your Animal lovers Prayer Book. God Bless. with all good wishes, Carolyn C x

Thanks Nick
Dear Mr Fawcett, As a fellow multiple myeloma sufferer it helped me to focus on the treatable bit of the incurable element of the diagnosis albeit with the caveat that those treatments can be bloody.
Helping me to get my head around the fact that chemo will be my best friend for the rest of my life is picking up your Daily Prayer and re-reading your wise words. My big request from the Lord was for grace!
I wish I could return the compliment. Instead, you will be in my prayer conversation in the middle of the night…a fine antidote to sleeplessness courtesy of Dexamethazone.
With many best wishes. Anne
Thanks for your lovely message, Anne. Remind me how long you have been diagnosed. When I was on a significant dosage of dex I used to take a sleeping tablet that one night. Not ideal, but better than climbing the walls.
I’m so sorry to heat all this Nick. You and your family are in my prayers. Joanne
Thank you so much, Joanne
