Seize the Day: A Mindful Guide to Fuller Living (this week’s promotional discount)

This week, until 3 January, you can purchase Seize the Day from Kevin Mayhew Ltd at a 10 per cent discount, using the code SEIZE10 when ordering the title from the company’s website. With the book normally retailing at £14.99, that’s a saving of £1.50. Just type the code into the relevant box at the online checkout between the dates given.

Here, meanwhile, is the second of the reflections I’ll be posting this week from the book, to run alongside this promotion.

Be still

To the mind that is still,
the whole universe surrenders.
Lao-tzu

Silence is more than just a lack of words.
Egyptian proverb

In stillness and quietness
lies your strength.
Isaiah 3:15

Be still,
and let your cares subside,
the pressures of a busy day,
the demands and responsibilities that oppress you.
Pause for a moment,
take stock,
and see them for what they are.
Be still,
if not in body,
then in mind,
and let the promise of the morning infuse your heart,
the peace of the evening calm your soul,
the tranquillity of the night soothe your spirit.
Be still,
turning from life’s fretful fever,
its frantic haste,
empty promise
and illusory attractions,
to what can truly satisfy,
what nourishes deep within.
Be still,
and make time,
for others …
and for yourself:
time to think,
to laugh,
to share,
to love.
The clock is ticking,
days rushing by,
no way of escaping the unforgiving minute,
and however hard we try,
we will never slow its pace,
still less outrun it.
Stop.
Let go.
Be still.
